Found in swamps and stagnant water. Attracted to movement and warmth.


Leprechaun

Can: Invisibility (at will), create auditory illusions, Polymorph non-living objects (1/day), Ventriloquism (at will).
Mischievous fey who guard pots of gold. Will bargain for freedom if caught.

Refract: spells have 1-in-6 chance to reflect back at caster. Shatter: explodes into shards when destroyed (d6 damage, Near).
Beautiful and deadly. The light bends strangely around them.


Living Statue, Iron

Absorb Heat: fire damage heals it instead. Burning Touch: after absorbing fire, melee attacks deal +d6 fire for 3 rounds.
Animated metal warriors forged by ancient artificers. Wizards learn to stop casting Fireball.


Living Statue, Stone

Lava Spray (DC 8 DEX or 2d6 fire, 2/day). Stone Camouflage: indistinguishable from carved statues until they move.
The oldest and most dangerous. Entire halls of them stand waiting.


Lammasu

Can: Invisibility, Dimension Door, cast as 6th-level Cleric. Constant Protection from Evil (Near radius).
Human-headed winged lion. Temple guardian and agent of Law. Speaks all languages.


Leopard

Ambush: Edge from concealment. Prefer climbing trees to swimming.
All-black leopards are called panthers. Both drop on prey from above.

Spells as 12th-level Magic-User. Touch paralyzes (no save). Sight causes fear (4 HD or below flee).
The undead remnant of a wizard who refused death. Brilliant, patient, utterly malevolent.


Lion

Pounce: Edge on first attack after charging. First encountered is male; all others are lionesses.
Ambush hunters of the savanna. The males roar; the females kill.


Lizard, Giant

Tail Sweep: once per round, knock prone all adjacent creatures (DC 8 DEX). Can be trained as mounts.
About 4 ft at the shoulder. Larger specimens exist—perhaps they never stop growing.


Lizardman

Can hold breath for an hour or more; some breathe underwater.
Reptilian humanoids dwelling in fetid swamps. Tribal and territorial.


Lizardman Chief

Can hold breath for an hour. War Cry: once per battle, all lizardmen within Near get Edge on next attack.
Largest and oldest of the tribe. Wears trophies from defeated enemies.
