Small folk who prize comfort but make fierce defenders of hearth and home.

Keen-eyed hunters. Can be trained if taken young.
Some are intelligent and can speak.


Harpy

Luring Song: DC 8 CHA or compelled to approach. Charming Touch: DC 8 CHA or charmed.
Human face, vulture body. Nests on sea cliffs and lures sailors onto the rocks.

Fire Breath: DC 8/8/12/12 DEX (by HD 4/5/6/7) or take HD d4s fire damage.
Flame-eyed hounds from the lower planes. Serve evil masters or hunt in infernal packs.


Hippogriff

Eagle head and wings, horse body.
Easier to train than griffons, but less prestigious.


Hobgoblin

Shield Wall: +1 AC when adjacent to another hobgoblin with a shield.
Militaristic and cruel. Fight in disciplined formations, never alone if they can help it.


Hobgoblin Captain

Shield Wall: +1 AC when adjacent to another hobgoblin. Command: Allies within Near get +1 to attack.
Barks orders even as they fight. Hobgoblin soldiers fear their captains more than the enemy.


Homunculus

Atk bite (d3) | Mv Slow, Fly Normal | Ml 7 | XP 40
Sleep Bite: DC 8 CON or sleep. Variants exist with poison bite or detection abilities.
Tiny winged servant created by wizards. Abilities vary by creator’s design.

Standard mount.
Skittish in combat unless trained.

Expensive but invaluable.

Hyena

Pack Tactics: Edge when ally within 5’.
Scavengers and pack hunters of the savanna. Often kept as pets by gnolls.


Hydra

Atk 1 bite per head (d6 each) | Mv Normal, Swim Normal | Ml 10 | XP varies
One head per HD. Regenerating: 2 heads grow back each round for each severed (fire/acid prevents). Fire-breathing variant: each head breathes 1d8 fire (DC 12 DEX for half).
Great serpentine body with many necks. Severing heads only makes it angrier.
